HIDDENWARE
I'm currently working towards a solo show with SPACE Studios. It will open in October 2025 in their Ilford gallery and run until March 2026. Here's some of the text I wrote about it in my project proposal:
The digital world depends on a vast material infrastructure that mostly hides from view. HIDDENWARE will foreground that materiality to reconsider our relationship with the virtual. The project will engage local video gamers and musicians to co-create audiovisual performances, culminating in an exhibition bridging sculpture, video, music and live streaming.
(...)
The cooling systems inside computers, the concrete in remote data centres, the gamers in dim bedrooms: all these physical parts of the digital world are connected by their invisibility. This project brings them to the fore and gives them a tangible presence in the gallery space, reminding us of the material reality that exists behind the virtual.
The project will build up to an exhibition including sculptures, video and a large musical instrument made out of liquid cooling tubes, like those used in gaming PCs. A group of musicians including the artist will play this instrument and provide a live soundtrack to public gaming sessions. These performances will be co-created and developed through a series of workshops, and will be streamed online as well as presented in the SPACE gallery.
